Where to go from here?
16 July 2008
Can you believe that I have made more money now from Project Wonderful ads than I have through Adbrite? It’s true. But from neither of them am I making enough to pay the bills. The work I do on Central Elements pays my share of the bills, and over the next three days I will be working with my friend Sharon on this new website that a guy she used to hike with contacted her about. It will be fun to be doing something other than Central Elements, not that I don’t like C.E. ’cause I do, but it’ll just be nice to be doing something new. Instead of html and stuff I’m going to be modifying and customizing and prettifying (not a real word, I am aware of that) a Content Management System. I’m super excited!
But other than that. Really what I enjoy is writing. And reading of course, and alot of my inspiration comes from writers like Stephen King, and Fern Michaels, Iris Johansen. I just love their books. And of course one of my all-time favorite books, One Child, is written by Torey Hayden, although I don’t think my writing style is anything like hers.
Anyway, what was I getting at? Oh right, writing. Yes. I enjoy writing. Short stories mostly, and poetry. Short stories because as hard as I try I just can’t seem to drag a story out. You know? And while I wish I could say I was a writer, I don’t think that I can because I once read that “you can’t call yourself a writer until what you’ve written has been published and sold“.
So here’s my thing: I’m going to write my ass off. And then I’m going to upload my short stories to Amazon.com, so that people who own the kindle can download and read my crap. If I sell even a single copy then I can officially call myself a writer. I’m a little scared though. What if nobody buys my book of short stories? What if I should just sell each short story separately instead of as a collection? And should I put all my poetry together and upload that as one book of poetry?
I need a laptop. Can you believe I write with a pen and paper? I do, it’s true. And I thought that was weird but I just finished Stephen King’s Everything’s Eventual (his collection of short stories) and before each story he writes what gave him the inspiration for the story and in some cases where he wrote the story (one was written on hotel stationary over a three day period) and now I don’t feel so weird.
Well what started as a blog entry has turned into me blabbering like an idiot. This gum is still super disgusting.
